There is a common misconception that when the word “we” is used in the book commonly referred to as the “big book” the authors are speaking of those in the rooms of Alcoholics Anonymous today. In fact, the book is titled Alcoholics Anonymous: The story of how many thousands of men and women have recovered from alcoholism. The first 100 people wrote the book. It is the story of their experiences and the path they took to awakening to a better way of living. It is their story, their testimony, their experience, we would be remiss if we changed their story by misperceiving that “we” who are in the rooms today are “we”, when we are not. They are the “we” that is being referred to throughout its pages.
